My God Weeps
In memory of those lost in the Newtown shooting
These songs of cheer ring hollow
These songs of Christmas joy
For presents sit unopened there
Beneath a Christmas Tree
But sing me songs of peace
Of what this Christmas is
Sing me the songs of a little Boy
Sent to save our world
For in His hands now He holds
These children taken too soon
And in His arms He cradles those
Left to weep alone
We cry alone in the darkness
In the light we carry on
Life must go on despite the wrong
Despite the lives that end
We must try to change the world
And be the peace we seek
And crawl out from behind our tears
And comfort those who mourn
I turn to the woods today
Where I know I will find Him
I turn my eyes to the heavens
Where I know I will find peace
I cry out “why” and no answer comes
But I know I do not weep alone
My God weeps for the tears shed
The shoes that go unfilled.
My God weeps for the cries heard
The visions that won’t leave.
My God weeps for each one of us
Who have seen another evil.
My God weeps for another day.
You do not weep alone.
